Mark Brents, Programmer Analyst IV in SPD’s Information Technology division, exudes an incredible knowledge of software systems while maintaining a humble attitude and kindhearted spirit.
“I like being helpful,” said Mark. “I really enjoy making paths to help people more effectively do their jobs.” He’s quick to credit others on his team and transfer accolades elsewhere, but a deeper dive into his work uncovers his overwhelming contribution to SPD’s technology infrastructure.
“He’s very willing to share his knowledge, and he has tons of it to share,” said Jackie Moseley, a developer and frequent project collaborator. “If anyone needs a helping hand, he’s willing and able.” Serving at SPD since 2013, after successful stints with both the Alabama Departments of Revenue and Transportation, Mark develops software and maintains preexisting programs for SPD. It’s a complex job involving key integrations with the website and internal programs.
“Mark is an amazing programmer,” said SPD IT Manager Tom Burge. “He is the type of employee that you wish you could clone to increase productivity. When I need development or modifications done quickly, he is my go-to developer.”
Perhaps it’s no surprise Mark’s favorite work moments involve him plugging away at the keyboard solving puzzles, coding, and figuring out solutions. Despite preferring to work behind the scenes, SPD is endlessly thankful for the intelligence, dedication, and skill he brings to the agency.
