  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)
  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)

College coursework is defined as credit hours applicable toward a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Coursework or degrees from schools that have not been accredited by one of the above accreditation agencies may be accepted if one of the designated accredited schools considers the coursework or degree to be an acceptable prerequisite for admission to an advanced degree program. For example, if one of the designated accredited schools accepts an applicant’s bachelor’s degree for admission into a graduate degree program, State Personnel will accept the degree. In the case of required college coursework, but no degree requirement, State Personnel will accept the college coursework if one of the designated accredited schools accepts the coursework toward a post-secondary degree (e.g., a bachelor’s degree). This must be documented by a letter of acceptance from the designated accredited school. State Personnel will review such requests on a case-by-case basis.

Note: This policy is subject to change. Certain state agencies may have additional requirements.

Applicants in Their Final Term of Study

In certain cases, applicants who are in their final quarter or semester of college may apply for jobs that require a college degree but do not require work experience. Each job posting will clearly indicate whether this option is available.

If you apply while in your final term, you must submit documentation verifying completion of your bachelor’s degree to the hiring department before you can begin employment.

Foreign Education Credential Policy

Applicants who have earned degrees or completed coursework outside the United States must submit verified credential evaluations. These evaluations are required for any classification in which the degree or coursework is needed to meet minimum qualifications or to receive credit during the scoring process. Credential evaluation services determine the U.S. equivalency of foreign degrees (such as Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees) and, when applicable, provide course-by-course equivalencies.
