Transcript Submission and Accreditation Policy

If a job posting requires you to submit a transcript with your online application, please upload it at the time you apply. This includes an official transcript from every accredited college or university you attended. Official transcripts issued directly to students are acceptable.

College coursework required for a job classification—as well as bachelor’s, master’s, post‑graduate, and doctoral degrees—will be accepted from institutions accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) or by one of the following regional accrediting bodies:

  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE)
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges – Senior College and University Commission (WASC‑SCUC)

Coursework or degrees from institutions not accredited by one of the organizations listed above may still be accepted if a regionally accredited institution accepts them as a prerequisite for admission to an advanced degree program. For example, if a regionally accredited university accepts your bachelor’s degree as qualification for entry into a graduate program, the State Personnel Department will accept the degree as well.

For positions that require specific coursework (but not a full degree), the State Personnel Department will accept the coursework if a regionally accredited institution accepts it toward a postsecondary degree (such as a bachelor’s degree). This must be verified with a letter from the accredited institution. All requests are reviewed individually.

Note: This policy is subject to change, and some state agencies may require additional documentation.

Foreign Education Credential Policy

Applicants who have earned degrees or completed coursework outside the United States must submit verified credential evaluations. These evaluations are required for any classification in which the degree or coursework is needed to meet minimum qualifications or to receive credit during the scoring process. Credential evaluation services determine the U.S. equivalency of foreign degrees (such as Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees) and, when applicable, provide course-by-course equivalencies.
